I want to start by quoting Kay Waghorne, President Cy-Fair RW, from her May newsletter:

“Are you ready for some Action?  What an exciting time to be a Republican Woman!  And especially a member of Cy-Fair Republican Women!  I dare say that the very reason that you joined a Republican Women's club was to become involved in the process.  Well ladies, you are about to be given the opportunity to do just that.  While the Democrats are busy showing their true colors... we will be building our party and preparing for the hard work ahead.  With the State Convention just around the corner.... and in HOUSTON... we will have lots of opportunities to be involved.  I can not stress enough (again) the importance of keeping the White House and regaining lost seats both in Texas and Washington.”

Won’t you agree this is right on target?!

Another club president and TFRW Candidate Development Chairman Elizabeth Martin from Kendall Co. RW had this in KCRW’s Newsletter which I thought was worth sharing:

“Pres Note, I love to cook and part of making a great dish is having great fresh ingredients.  As I look to the November Election and what it will take to win, I realize that we will need to have the right ingredients to serve up a big win.  Let me propose my “recipe”.

Each of you have a special talent to get people involved – you are leaders, put your talents to work, motivate your members to get new members and campaign hard for all our candidates.

Talking about candidates I want to say I’m proud to support Senator John McCain. Every newsletter until November will have short and sweet talking points to pass on why republicans should stand behind Senator McCain.

Pork Spending

1.    Did you know Senator McCain has a 100% record on no pork spending? Yes that’s right he has a $0, ZERO and says when he is President he will veto bills that come to him with pork.

2.    How can you get this across to your friends and family?  I’ve found that most people are not aware of the beltway terms “Pork Spending” or “Earmarks”.  Someone who wasn’t aware of the lingo gave me a suggestion, “An ‘Add On’ to bills that cost tax payers money”.  Don’t forget about the bridge to nowhere in Alaska.

3.    Pork cost tax payers billions of dollars a year, you read right BILLIONS. Go to www.cagw.org to find out the rest of the story.

Send me why you are standing behind Senator McCain for President.  It might get published in the next newsletter.

It saddens me to tell you Janas Byrnes, TFRW Treasurer, has resigned effective May 31 due to health reasons.  The good news is Jan Ott from Cy-Fair RW has agreed and was voted to replace Janas effective June 1, 2008.  Janas will be greatly missed.  I am looking forward to working with Jan Ott for the next year and a half.  With Jan’s eagerness to start and Janas’ willingness to help it will be a smooth transition.

Our June Conference Calls start June 2 and end June 6.  You should have received the invitation on May 26, 2008 for the call.  Check with your district director for a phone number and access code if you didn’t get the invitation.  Remember you can join in another call if you can’t make your scheduled time.

Brenda McCullough, TFRW Literacy Chairman, has a program you won’t want to miss. Mary Mayo, TFRW VP Finance, will be giving instructions on how to pick up your clubs tickets for the Tribute to Women Luncheon.  There has been an overwhelming response to this event.  There will be over 900 attending the luncheon.

Here’s a helpful hint… the Conference Calls are a toll call unless you have free/unlimited long distance calls with your telephone calling plan.  However, many of you have free calling from your cell phone (especially starting at 7:00pm).  GREAT NEWS, there is a conference call scheduled every month on Monday’s starting at 7:00pm.  It may not be your “regions” call but to save your pennies, and as Republicans we are all looking for ways to be fiscally responsible, feel free to participate at this time.
